Authentic Learning and AI

How to use this guide

  • Explore the "Intro to AI" page first - get a sense of the key terminology related to AI and check your understanding of how AI works by watching the linked videos.
  • Decide on an area of "AI and Ethics in Schools" that you want to learn more about - click on AI and Ethics tab, read an overview of each aspect, and explore the resources.
  • Take accurate, detailed notes as directed by your teacher - make sure you are paying attention to your sources--you will need to cite them in your panel presentations and in your persuasive letters at the end of the unit.

Project instructions and info

YOUR WORK:

1. Develop a basic understanding of Generative AI.  At the end of this unit, you should be able to define and describe Generative AI to another person who is unfamiliar with the term and give examples of how it is used in different areas of school and society.

2. Explore the ethical dilemmas and questions surrounding Generative AI.  Your research will ask you to choose an area of focus, then dig deep into the promises and perils of AI in that area.  You will use reliable sources to help you understand why people are excited--and concerned--about AI in schools.

3.  Influence future conversations and policy decisions about AI at BHRSD schools.  Your work will culminate in a well-crafted persuasive letter addressed to the DBM "AI Teacher Working Group." recently formed to study AI use in schools and make recommendations to the BHRSD school committee.  We will use the best letters to guide our approach, and would like to invite students to join us in crafting presentations/policy this year.
